Level 1C Development

Producing intercalibrated data from the official archives of existing and future satellites depends on details of each sensor. The current implementation uses TMI as a reference standard. Details are provided separately for the following sensors.

Level 1C Data

A common HDF format has been developed by the precipitation processing system (PPS) for the Level 1C data, which accomodates all existing radiometers.
TKIO Toolkit: A toolkit has been developed to facilitate reading the Level 1C data with either C or Fortran. Note that there are substantial changes to the toolkit in the latest version (Oct 2006) making it incompatible with previous versions.

Software: Code for users wishing to determine land/ocean coverage, precise Earth incidence angles, and sun glint angles for a given sensor/pixel.

Format Specifications: A brief description specific to each sensor is provided along with sample code to read the data.

Issues/problems: Details of known issues with the current version of the Level 1C data

Proposed Changes: Details of changes/additions proposed for future versions

Rainfall Maps

Gridded 0.25x0.25 degree rainfall estimates are provided using the GPROF rainfall algorithm
