Level 1C vs. Level 2A Brightness Temperature Comparison:
Currently, no intercalibration of the AMSR-E brightness temperatures to those from TMI has been performed. The Level 1C calibration is currently unchanged from the source data, which is the Level 1B calibration done by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA)
Comparison plots of the AMSR-E Level 1B brightness temperatures from JAXA with the Level 2A brightness temperatures produced by NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center and archived by the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) are provided below. As can be seen from the plots, differences between the two data sources are on the order of several Kelvin and they show significant variations as a function of brightness temperature.
